National Women’s Health Week
National Women’s Check-Up Day
Plan now to join the 2004 National
Women's Health Week celebration. The U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services will celebrate National Women's Health Week on
May 9-15, 2004 and its signature event, National Women's Check-Up
Day, on May 10, 2004.
National Women's Health Week is a national effort by an alliance
of government organizations to raise awareness about manageable
steps women can take to improve their health. The focus is on the
importance of incorporating simple preventive and positive health
behaviors into everyday life. Last year over 1,000 events, proclamations,
and health screenings occurred in every state, and thousands of
women received preventive health information and services.
Organizations are invited to host women's health events such
as walks and health forums throughout the week, and to form partnerships
with other organizations in their communities to celebrate women's
health. Health providers are invited to sign up as a Check-Up
Day Provider and offer preventive health services to women on
May 10 and throughout the week.
To sign up as an event host or as a National Women's Check-Up
Day provider, visit the National Women's Health Week Web site
at http://www.4woman.gov/whw/2004/Make-it-happen/.

(Editor’s Note: if you’ve never ridden up, and
down, myriad times, over three days and nights, in a large hotel
elevator, every time with at least one passenger getting on, or
off, at the wrong floor, and/or misplacing his or her keys, and
nothing but bemusement, recognition and good will accruing to
that person [who could be you, or someone you know], that experience
by itself is practically worth the trip.)
There is a Pre-Conference Conference, too; find information on the
same website.
And, there’s still time to purchase exhibit tables or booths,
ads in the conference guidebook or sponsor an event. E-mail the
ADDA office at mail@add.org or
call for more information: 484-945-2101
Fewer than four weeks away: Northwest Airlines are offering great
rates to St. Louis; after you register for the conference at www.add.org
get your plane tickets while fares are still low.
For Moms and Kids with ADHD, at last!
AD/HD Family-friendly Parenting Guidelines
Great news for women with AD/HD! We are delighted to announce the
completion of a booklet offering parenting guidelines for women
with AD/HD, written by Patricia Quinn, M.D. and Kathleen Nadeau,
Ph.D.
If you're a mother with AD/HD, you've probably asked yourself countless
times, "How in the world am I supposed to organize my kids
when I can't organize myself?" All those excellent parenting
books with tried-and-true, home-tested strategies for children with
AD/HD are languishing on your bookshelf. Problem is, the advice
offered in these books is more appropriate for parents who don't
struggle with AD/HD challenges themselves.
Recent research has made us aware of the prevalence of AD/HD in mothers
of kids with AD/HD. Now that it's clear that many moms have AD/HD,
how can we help them find AD/HD family-friendly parenting advice?
Our new parenting guidelines are one small step in the right direction.
Our goal is to help Moms and kids, together, learn how to manage
the challenges of AD/HD.
To see the AD/HD Family-friendly Parenting Guidelines, go to http://www.ncgiadd.org/
and find the link for the Guidelines. These will eventually be published
in print form, too.
(AD/HD Family-friendly Parenting Guidelines was supported by
an unrestricted educational grant by Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals.)
